Background documentation Overview: Integration- and Display Types of BW Content in the Portal Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

You can integrate content from SAP BW into SAP EP using various tools. Depending on the type of integration, you create different objects with different displays in the portal.

You have a variety of options for displaying BW objects in the Enterprise Portal. The various display types are summarized in the table that follows.

Display Types for BW Objects in the Enterprise Portal

Display Type

Description

BEx Web Application As iView

Web-based BI application that is displayed as an iView in the Enterprise Portal (for example, BEx Web Analyzer).

BEx Web Applications are Web templates executed in the Web that are created using the BEx Web Application Designer.

BEx Web Application As a Document in Knowledge Management

Document stored in a KM folder with historical data for a Web-based BI application.

BEx Web Application As an Online Link in Knowledge Management

Link to a Web-based BI application with current data in a KM folder.

Display requires the Structure linkRepository Manager for BW Metadata.

BW Workbook As iView

MS Excel workbook with one or more embedded queries that are displayed in a separate browser window as an iView in the Enterprise Portal.

BW Workbook As Document in Knowledge Management

Microsoft Excel workbook with one or more embedded queries that is stored as a document with historical data in a KM folder.

BW Query As iView

A query that is displayed as a Web-based BI application in a standard view (Standard Web Template for Ad-hoc Analysis) is displayed as an iView in the Enterprise Portal. This is a special form of a BEx Web Application.

BW-Query As Online Link in the Knowledge Management

A link to a query with current data store in a KM folder that is displayed with the Standard Web Template for Ad-hoc Analysis.

Display requires the Structure linkRepository Manager for BW Metadata.

BW Query As Document in Knowledge Management

A document stored in a KM folder with historical data for a query that is displayed with the Standard Web Template for Ad-hoc Analysis.

Single BW Document in Knowledge Management As an iView

A single document generated in SAP BW (such as documentation on metadata) that is displayed as in iView in the Enterprise Portal. The document or the link can either be available in Knowledge Management through the Structure linkRepository Manager for BW Documents and BW Metadata or a precalculated BEx Web Application in Knowledge Management.

Multiple BW Documents in Knowledge Management As iView

Multiple documents and/or links from a folder in Knowledge Management are displayed with a KM Navigation iView. The documents and/or links in Knowledge Management can come from SAP BW and other sources.

The layout of a KM Navigation iView can be adapted using layout sets.

Web-Interface As iView

Web-capable planning application of the BW BPS that is displayed as an iView in the Enterprise Portal.

Components from SAP BW

Various applications and tools from SAP BW, such as the Administrator Workbench, the BEx Query Designer, the BEx Web Application Designer or the BEx Analyzer.

You can distribute the content from SAP BW to the Enterprise Portal using Information Broadcasting. This includes the tools BEx Broadcaster and BEX Broadcasting Wizard, as well as the BEx Web Application Designer and the BEx Query Designer. For more information, see Information Broadcasting.

Beyond that, you can integrate content from SAP BW into the portal using SAP Role Upload, KM Content and the Portal Content Studio. For more information, see Creating Content from SAP BW for the Enterprise Portal.

Tools for the Integration of BW Objects into the Enterprise Portal

Tool

Description

BEx Broadcasting Wizard

Assistant that provides step-by-step instructions on precalculating and distributing queries, Web templates or workbooks.

With the BEx Broadcasting Wizard, you can generate both precalculated documents and online links and publish them to the Enterprise Portal.

BEx Broadcaster

Tools for precalculating and distributing queries, Web templates and workbooks. The BEx Broadcaster offers more extensive options for precalculation and distribution than the BEx Broadcasting Wizard does.

With the BEx Broadcaster, you can generate both precalculated documents and online links and publish them to the Enterprise Portal.

BEx Web Application Designer

A desktop application for creating Web pages using BW content.

Use the BEx Web Application Designer to create a HTML page that contains BW-specific content, such as tables, charts or maps. This HTML page functions as a basis for BEx Web applications with complex interactions, such as BI cockpits. You can save the BEx Web applications as a URL and access them from an intranet or on mobile devices. In addition, you can integrate BEx Web applications into an Enterprise Portal.

BEx Query Designer

Tool for defining queries that are based on a selection of characteristics and key figures (InfoObjects) or on reusable structures of an InfoProvider.

You can use the queries as the basis for data analysis and reporting in various areas of the Business Explorer (such as in the BEx Analyzer or in BEx Web Applications) or integrate them into Enterprise Portal.

Portal Content Studio

Central environment for generating and managing the Portal Content in the Enterprise Portal.

KM Content

Central environment for generating and managing documents and links in Knowledge Management.

SAP Role Upload

Tool for uploading role definitions and the associated objects from the back-end systems (such as the BW system) into the Enterprise Portal.

The following table provides an overview of which tool you use to create which objects. If a combination is marked with an X in the table, it means that this display type of BW content is possible with the designated tool.
