Function documentation BW Documents in Knowledge Management as an iView Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

The Structure linkRepository Manager for BW Documents and BW Metadata allows the display documents and metadata created in SAP BW (especially the documentation for the metadata as well) using Knowledge Management (KM).

The Repository-Manager for BW Documents enables access to documents created in SAP BW. The Structure linkdocuments are broken down into three Structure linkdocument classes Metadata, Master Data and InfoProvider Data. The Metadata document class contains manually created documents on metadata. These documents are not the automatically generated documents from the Metadata Repository. In the Master Data document class there are documents on characteristic values, such as images for personnel numbers, descriptions and technical specifications for materials. The InfoProvider Data document class contains documents on a combination of characteristic values, such as comments on key figures.

You can use the Administrator Workbench or Web Applications to create the documents. For more information on displaying, creating and changing documents in Web Applications, see Using Documents in Web Applications.

The Repository Manager for BW Metadata enables access to automatically generated HTML-based documents for metadata. The documents correspond to the information in the Structure linkMetadata Repository in the Administrator Workbench.

You can also store BEx Web Applications or queries as documents or links in Knowledge Management using the BEx Broadcaster. For more information, see Functions of the BEx Broadcaster.

In both cases, documents or links are created in Knowledge Management that represent BW content and that can be used to display and use the functions of Knowledge Management.

Features

Displaying Individual Documents as iViews

The documents can be displayed individually as iViews. For this display, an iView of type KM Document iView is required with the code link com.sap.km.cm.docs. You have to specify the most important property, Path to Document or Link in KM. Using the KM Content iView from the Content-Administration role in the SAP Enterprise Portal, you are able to determine the appropriate path to documents from the Structure linkRepository Managers for BW Documents and BW Metadata and to precalculated documents or links from the BEx Broadcaster. The appropriate prefixes <BW_DOCUMENT_PREFIX> and <BW_META_DATA_PREFIX> have to be included in the path to documents from the repository managers for BW documents and BW metadata.

For more information about other iView properties, see Structure linkiView Properties.

For more information about the configuration of the Repository Manager for BW Documents and BW Metadata, see Structure linkSetting Up the Repository Manager for BW Documents and BW Metadata. In the Repository Manager configuration, the prefixes <BW_DOCUMENT_PREFIX> and <BW_META_DATA_PREFIX> are also determined.

Displaying Multiple Documents in KM Folders

Multiple documents can be displayed in a KM folder. To do this, you create internal links to the corresponding BW documents in the KM folder of your choice. For example, you may want to add additional BW documents or the appropriate documentation on BW metadata to a KM folder in which you have stored precalculated documents and links from BEx Web applications using the BEx Broadcaster.

A KM folder is displayed using a KM Navigation iView with the code link com.sap.km.cm.navigation. For more information on the most important properties, see Calling with KM Folders.

The KM folders can be displayed in different layouts. The Layout Settings property determines which layout is displayed. For more information, see Calling with the BEx Portfolio.

For more information about creating links in Knowledge Management to documents from the Repository Manager for BW Documents and BW Metadata, see Integration Using KM-Content.
