Prerequisites

If you want to use variables in the currency translation type, you have to create them beforehand. See Creating Variables for Currency Translation Types.

Procedure

...

       1.      Choose SAP Menu ® Administration ® Settings ®Translation types ® Create.

       2.      Enter a technical name for the translation type. The name must be between three and ten characters long and begin with a letter. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Continue. The Edit Currency Translation Type screen appears.

Tab Page Exchange Rate:

       3.      Choose Dynamic Exchange Rate Determination or enter an InfoObject (key figure) to be used to determine the exchange rate. The latter is only supported with updates.

       4.      Choose Exchange Rate Type or Ex. Rate Type from Var. to determine the exchange rate dynamically. With Ex. Rate Type from Var. you can select any variable that has been created for 0RTYPE using input help.

       5.      Determine whether you want to perform the currency translation with the inverse exchange rate. In this case, the required translation from one currency to another is performed using the reverse exchange rate. This can be useful, for example, when the values have already been translated and the original values need to be restored.

Tab Page Source Currency

       6.      On the Source Currency tab page, choose whether you want the source currency to be determined from the data record or from an InfoObject. Specify the InfoObject you want to use to determine the source currency. For more information, see the example under Determining Target Currency from InfoObjects.

Tab Page Target Currency

       7.      On the Target Currency tab page, decide whether you want to establish the target currency in the translation type, or wait until the translation to establish it.

If you are determining the target currency upon translation, you can either specify a fixed target currency in the Query Designer (as a property of a key figure of type Amount) or specify a variable to be used to determine the target currency. See Setting Variable Target Currencies in the Query Designer.

If the target currency is to be determined in the translation type, choose either

¡        a fixed target currency

¡        an InfoObject from which the target currency is to be determined

Caution

Note that with InfoSets, the InfoObject can occur several times within the InfoSet and therefore may not be unique. In this case you have to specify the unique field alias name of the InfoObject in the InfoSet. The field alias name consists of: <InfoSet name><three underscores><field alias>. You can display the field alias in the InfoSet Builder using Switch Technical Name On/Off.

Example: In the InfoSet ISTEST, characteristic 0CURR occurs twice. The field alias names are ISTEST___F00009 and ISTEST___F00023.

¡        or target currency from a variable. Here you can use input help to select a variable that has been created for 0CURRENCY.

Tab Page Time Base

       8.      Select a fixed or a variable base reference for the currency translation.

¡        With a fixed time base you can choose between the current date, a fixed key data or a time base from variable (variable for 0DATE).

¡        With a variable time base you can choose a standard InfoObject to be used when determining when the translation takes place (standard time characteristic: 0FISCYEAR, 0FISCPER, 0CALYEAR, 0CALQUARTER, 0CALMONTH, 0CALWEEK and 0CALDAY), or you can choose a special InfoObject with the type date. This special InfoObject has to have the same properties as the standard InfoObject or it has to reference the standard InfoObject. The afore mentioned notes on using InfoSets also apply here.

¡        Or choose Query Key Date. In this case the time base is the key date that is set in the query properties in the Query Designer.

       9.      Save your entries.

Result

The currency translation type is available for translating currencies in the update of InfoCubes and with data analysis in the Business Explorer.
