Procedure documentation Editing Hierarchies Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Prerequisites

You have already created a hierarchy for the required hierarchy basic characteristic (see Creating Hierarchies).

Procedure

You can create hierarchies in two ways: Either from the SAP Easy Access Menu or via hierarchy maintenance in the Administrator Workbench.

·        From the SAP Easy Access Menu, choose Modeling ® Master Data Maintenance ® Hierarchies. The Initial Screen Hierarchy Editing dialog box appears. You can find additional information below in the section “Accessing via  This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Editing Hierarchies“.

·        You are in the Modelingfunction area of the Administrator Workbench. You can access hierarchy editing in the following ways:

¡        You can select an editing function in the context menu of a hierarchy in the InfoObject tree.

¡        You can call up hierarchy maintenance via This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Edit Hierarchies from the symbol bar in the Administrator Workbench.

       1.      In the Administrator Workbench, under Modeling, choose the InfoObject tree.

       2.      If you have assigned the hierarchy basic characteristic to an InfoObject catalog, select the corresponding InfoObject catalog for an InfoArea.

If the hierarchy basic characteristic does not belong to an InfoObject catalog, choose the InfoArea Non-Assigned Nodes and the InfoObject Catalog Non-Assigned Characteristics.

       3.      Select the characteristic hierarchy you want to edit and choose an editing function in the context menu. The following table gives you an overview of the available functions:

Change

The Change Hierarchy screen appears.

If several versions of the hierarchy are available, the Selection of Hierarchy Object Version dialog appears. Choose the variant you want to use.

The Save Hierarchy As dialog box appears. Enter a hierarchy name.

If the hierarchy is version or time dependent, enter the hierarchy version and the validity date (see Hierarchy Properties).

You can enter descriptions (short, medium and long) for the hierarchy to be copied.

Delete

Confirm the prompt if you do actually want to delete the hierarchy.

Activate

The system declares whether activation was successful.

In cases where it is not possible to activate the hierarchy, a dialog appears with the error log.

If the hierarchy is already used in an aggregate, you can choose

·        whether you want to activate the hierarchy directly and thus delete the aggregate,

·        or whether you want pre-select the hierarchy for activation.

In the latter case, you need to run the change run for this hierarchy. This updates all the aggregates contained in the hierarchy and activates the hierarchy. See Adjusting Changes to Hierarchies and Attributes
