Procedure documentation Overview of Variables Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

The Overview of Variables tool makes it possible to display any data objects, together with their current content and technical properties.  In the vertical display, you can choose between two variable lists through the tabstrip title. The number of data objects in both lists is unlimited. Only the selected window and font size pose any limitation. The lists contains the following specifications:

·         Status

·         Name

·         Type of value

·         Changeability

·         Decimal value

·         Hexadecimal value

·         Technical type

·         Absolute type

·         Read-only flag

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

You can include a data object in the Overview of Variables in either of the following two ways:

·         You enter the name of the data object in the Variable column and then press the ENTER key.  This variant is possible only if the Overview of Variables is already active in the work area.

·         In the Editor, double-click the required data object using the left mouse button. If the Overview of Variables was not yet active, it will be started automatically. If the work area already contains four active tools, you can decide in another window which tool should be closed instead.

The value of a data object can be changed if the function Change Field Content is supplied in the Change column. In this case, it is sufficient if you double-click the respective icon in order to make the Value column ready for input. Any entry made here will overwrite the value of the data object as soon as this is confirmed with the ENTER key.

In addition, there is the option of simultaneously overwriting several changeable data objects by making the required data objects ready for input using the function Change Field Content. With this status, their contents can be changed successively. As soon as you have completed all your changes, you need to press the ENTER key only once in order to have all the changes adopted in the database.

NoteThe functions Select All and Delete Selection, which are at the top of the variable list, allow you to delete simultaneously all the data objects from the display. You can call other services, such as Save or Find, using the Tool Services function.
