Minimal Installation

The simplest installation of the SAP Web AS Java consists of a database, Central Services (Message Service and Enqueue Service), a dispatcher, a server process and the Software Deployment Manager (SDM).

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

The system consists of two instances: a Java central instance with SDM, and the Central Services instance. All of this can run on one physical machine, but one instance cannot be distributed on several hosts.

An installation is called a cluster installation as soon as there are more cluster elements than one dispatcher and one server process installed.

The Web AS Java is started and monitored by the Java Startup and Control Framework.

You can find a description of the most important processes of the Web AS Java at operating system level under Important Processes.
