Function documentation Calling with Portal Roles Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

The portal desktop is the initial page for calling content from SAP BW. The header area contains the initial navigation bar that contains all initial folders for the assigned portal roles of a user. When a portal role is defined in the Portal Content Studio, the initial folders as such are selected using a property on the folder.

Initial access to content in the Enterprise Portal takes place through portal roles. When you select a folder, either an iView, a portal page in the content area or a subfolder in detailed navigation is displayed.

Features

BEx Web applications as iViews are started from portal roles or portal pages. They access the BW system directly and display the content from the SAP BW with the current data.

Portal roles are hierarchical structures with the following components:

·        Portal roles

·        Worksets

·        Portal folders

·        Portal pages

·        iViews

The structure of a portal role is very flexible (see Differences between SAP EP 5.0 and SAP EP 6.0). Worksets, portal folder and portal pages are optional. A portal role can be comprised simply of iViews. The components Portal role, Worksets, Portal folders and Portal pages can operate within one another in any number of ways. For example, portal roles can contain other portal roles.

Maintenance of portal roles is done with the Portal Content Studio. You can find more information under Structure linkPortal Content Studio.

The assignment of portal roles to individual users can be done using User Management ® Roles.  You can find more information under Structure linkRole Assignment.
