Process documentation Drag&Relate with BW Content in the SAP Enterprise Portal Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

Using Drag&Relate, iViews can be started from other iViews. The iViews are related to another with Business Objects. In a Drag&Relate operation, a Business Object is transferred from one iView (Drag&Relate Source) to another iView (Drag&Relate Target) as a parameter. Transfer and starting of the iView is done using by dragging the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text symbol with the mouse.

In SAP BW, Business Objects correspond to InfoObjects of type Characteristic. With a Drag&Relate operation, the characteristic, a characteristic value and the logical system are transferred. When you only click on the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text symbol in a BEx Web Application without dragging it to another iview, the master data with attributes from the InfoObject Characteristic are displayed.

Caution

Be careful that the Drag&Relate function does not replace the Goto by report-report interface function. Instead it should enhance these functions. For more information, see Differences Between Drag&Relate and Report-Report Interface

The Drag&Relate service uses the Relation Resolving Service and the Unification Controller Service to send requests to the connected systems using the Distributed Query Engine (DQE) via connectors. The Relation Resolving Service links Business Objects (see Linking Business Objects) that are stored in the Portal Content Directory (PCD) (see Creating Business Objects). Zur Laufzeit werden die Verknüpfungen von Business Objects als Abfragen zur Auflösung an die angeschlossenen Systeme geschickt. The requests are sent to the affected systems with the DQE. The communication between the DQE and the systems takes place via connectors that are maintained in the system landscape.

In the following, the necessary steps for using various Drag&Relate scenarios are described. For more information about the Drag&Relate function from Drag&Relate.

For more information on the architecture of Drag&Relate and Unification and their various services, see Structure linkUnification.

Note

This documentation refers to the function Drag&Relate for BW content in SAP EP 6.0 on Web AS 6.40 with SAP BW 3.5.

Prerequisites

In contrast to SAP EP 5.0, Unification and Drag&Relate are integral components of the portal infrastructure in SAP EP 6.0. A separate Unification Server is no longer necessary. All specific applications for Unification and Drag&Relate are specific iViews or parts of other applications such as the Portal Content Studio. Ensure that you have made the basic settings under Structure linkSettings for SAP BW 3.5 and SAP EP 6.0.

Caution

Not that you maintain the properties Admin User ID (DQE) and Admin Password (DQE) in the Structure linkCreating a BW-System in the Portal. Without these properties, the DQE cannot create a connection to the BW system.

For more information on settings for scenarios with ERP systems, see Structure linkUnification with SAP R/3 and BW and Structure linkSetting Up SAP-R/3 Systems for Drag&Relate .

Process Flow

Maintenance of the connector for the Distributed Query Engine (DQE) in SAP EP is required for using Drag&Relate with BW content. Importing and linking Business Objects, along with maintenance of settings for the iView are activities that have to be performed for each Drag&Relate scenario.

To use Drag&Relate, take the following steps:

       1.      Create Business Objects. See Creating Business Objects.

       2.      Link the Business Objects. See Linking Business Objects.

       3.      Define iViews as Drag&Relate sources. See Defining an iView as a Drag&Relate Source.

       4.      Define iViews as Drag&Relate targets. See Defining an iView as a Drag&Relate Source.

       5.      Execute Drag&Relate. See Execute Drag&Relate.

Result

When the steps above are performed, the scenarios described under Executing Drag&Relate are enabled.
