Process documentation Monitoring the SAP Web Dispatcher Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

You can monitor the SAP Web Dispatcher from the browser or from the command line program icmon. With the browser use the Web-based interface to administrate and monitor the SAP Web Dispatcher.

The functions and structure are similar to transaction SMICM for the ICM in ABAP Web AS (see Structure linkMonitoring the ICM with the ICM Monitor).

You cannot use transaction SMICM to administrate the Web dispatcher because the Web dispatcher is an infrastructure component usually in the DMZ and cannot be accessed from the Web AS.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be satisfied to administrate the Web dispatcher from the browser.

·        You have installed the latest SAP Web dispatcher in a directory (see Operating the SAP Web Dispatcher).

·        You have unpacked packet icmadmin.SAR into a separate directory.

·        The value Structure linkicm/HTTP/admin_<xx> is defined in the profile of the SAP Web Dispatcher.

·        You have a file for the authorization of administrators (icmauth.txt). When you start the Web dispatchers with ‑bootstrap this file is automatically created.

Installation and Configuration of the Web Administration Interface explains what you have to do to meet the prerequisites.

Alternatively you can monitor the SAP Web Dispatcher with the command line program icmon. The is described in Monitoring the SAP Web Dispatcher Using the Console. The profile file of the Web dispatcher must not be changed.

Note

Administration with icmon can be done only on the same host on which the Web dispatcher is running.

Process Flow

You send an administration request to the SAP Web dispatcher from the browser, by entering the URL http://webdisp_host:admin_port/sap/admin. Processing Administration Requests describes how the SAP Web dispatcher identifies requests and generates responses.

Recommendation

For security reasons you should use HTTPS for administration. If you use HTTP, the administrator passwords are not encrypted and can be listened to. The Web dispatcher must be configured so that HTTPS is scheduled (see SAP Web Dispatcher and SSL).

When you have logged on you will see the administration and monitoring interface.

Most of these links are to monitoring functions.

On the left is the menu for the individual areas, on the right is the detail area.

The menu on the left is divided into the core system and the dispatching module:

The core system contains the kernel of the SAP Web Dispatcher: the runtime environment and the infrastructure, which the Structure linkInternet Communication Manager (ICM) also uses.

This submenu contains the following areas:
