SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) improves the accuracy of your enterprise-wide master data, getting rid of redundancies and inconsistencies. You can match multiple occurrences of the same object across your system landscape and store this as ID mapping data. For more information about ID mapping, see the SAP Content Integrator.
This ID mapping data and the master data can be extracted to the SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW). In particular, the ID mapping data and the master data can be used to fill the consolidated InfoObjects in SAP BW. These correspond directly to the SAP MDM master data objects business partner, product and product category and allow you to carry out consolidated and company-wide evaluations.
You have carried out the steps described in the SAP MDM configuration guide (Content Consolidation or Master Data Harmonization and Central Master Data Management) in the section “BW Extraction“. The configuration guides can be found on the SAP Service Marketplace under service.sap.com/instguides ® SAP MDM.
In SAP MDM you extract both the SAP CI ID mapping data and the master data from DataSources on the master data server in SAP MDM to SAP BW. This is explained in the figure below.
In SAP BW, you can use SAP MDM BI content, which is available from SAP BW 3.1/BI Content 3.30 Add-On. The SAP MDM BI content provides the InfoSources as well as the transfer and update rules required to update the consolidated InfoObjects. In SAP BW, you can use SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SAP SRM) BI content, which is available from SAP BW 3.1/ BI Content 3.20 Add-On.
The SAP BW BI content currently available does not allow you to update the master data client-specific InfoObjects, such as 0MATERIAL, using the SAP MDM extraction functions. To carry out such an update, the data in the SAP MDM format would have to be mapped to the data format of the application running on the master data client.
