When describing the set-up and use of the Clinical Work Station, we have to distinguish between the tasks and requirements of the user and those of the system administrator:

• Users work with preconfigured Clinical Work Stations. They must occasionally change the selection of data displayed, but should not be confronted with system settings.
• The system administrator sets up views and work environments quickly and easily by means of user-friendly functions. These functions have been designed according to the WYSIWYG principle (what you see is what you get). This means that when setting up views, the system administrator sees exactly what the user sees. For this reason, a separate function for setting up views is not provided. All the functions are available directly in the Clinical Work Station for users with the necessary authorization.

The differentiation between the typical processing options of the system administrator and those of the user is implemented by the authorization object N_VM_DEF. If the user is authorized to maintain views and work environments, he or she has access to all functions for changing views and various settings.
