Definition

Assignment of a patient admitted to the inpatient area to a bed specialty that can be different from the physician specialty and from the specialty of the nursing organizational unit.

In Quebec, the specialty type is defined as an occupancy characteristic, for example secteur d’excellence Cardiologie.

You can use the occupancy characteristic to classify movements. It thus provides another means of planning care unit occupancy. To do this, specify the occupancy characteristic for each movement of the case. The field is available to you in the following functions:

To maintain the statistical figures, on SAP Easy Access screen, choose Hospital ® Basic Data Administration ® Hospital Structure ® Organizational Structure ® Statistical Occupancy Characteristic ® Maintain or Display.

Note

This function is only available on the SAP Easy Access screen in the country version Canada. This means that after choosing System ® Profile ® Own Data, you must have specified the menu SISHCA on the Parameters tab page.

Assigning case movements to an occupancy characteristics leads to the possibility of occupancy planning per bed specialty and occupancy statistics. For example, an occupancy characteristic can have a quota, which is the minimum number of patients that should be assigned to it in order to meet government requirements.

You can freely define the values of the occupancy characteristic. The occupancy characteristic key can be up to 8 characters and the text up to 120 characters in length.
