Process Flow for the Conversion
Process
You can convert iPPE objects from an
iPPE product structure to BOM objects (material BOM of application component
LO-MD-BOM).
The iPPE objects, which are to be converted from a complex, multi-variant iPPE
model, are determined in an extraction
step.
The following overview shows the conversion of objects.
|
iPPE Object |
BOM Object |
|
Variant with material assignment |
The system checks the material type of the assigned material (quantity update indicator). · If there is a quantity update for the valuation area in the material master record, a stock item is created from the component variant. If there is no quantity update, a non-stock item is created. If variable-size item data is maintained for the component variant, a variable-size item is created. The sizes are copied from the iPPE model. |

The following overview contains the activities that you need to perform before the conversion process.
|
Activity |
Result |
|
Maintain iPPE product structure |
You have maintained a consistent iPPE product structure in the iPPE workbench. |
|
Decomposition of iPPE structure with reference to a focus (optional) |
You have maintained a focus record in the iPPE workbench. |
|
Determination of iPPE data with reference to a filter (optional) |
You have maintained a filter master record in the iPPE workbench. |
|
Define Settings for extraction and conversion |
For example, you have defined which dialog steps are involved in the conversion, and how the BOM objects are created and deleted. |
The extraction of iPPE data and the conversion process are two functional packages that run in one transaction. When you start the conversion process, the first step is always the extraction of the conversion-relevant data. Then the iPPE data is converted.
...
1. Choose Logistics ® Production ® Master Data ® Integrated Product and Process Engineering (iPPE) ® Convert iPPE Model.
You see the Conversion of iPPE Model to BOMs screen, where you start both the extraction and the conversion process.
2.
Check the Settings for Extraction and
Conversion, changing them if necessary, by choosing
.
A dialog box appears where you can define settings on several tab pages.
3.
Choose
(Copy
parameters).
You return to the Convert iPPE Model to BOMs screen.
4.
To define the access and scope for the BOM
explosion, enter a focus or filter on the
relevant tab pages, and choose
Load <master record>.
The system determines the data of the master record (focus or filter). The access data (material, plant, and usage) and the assigned value data for the characteristics and validity are displayed.

The access to a product structure can only be determined if the master record of the focus or filter contains data on the material and usage.
The plant is optional in the engineering process. The modeling of the iPPE structure determines whether a plant must be specified. If an iPPE structure has been defined with reference to a plant, and you want to convert the plant-specific product structure, you must enter a plant in the focus or filter. This check takes place at every level of the structure.
5.
Select
(Convert iPPE
Model).
The system decomposes the product structure and determines the conversion-relevant iPPE objects.
The rest of the conversion process depends on the Settings for Extraction and Conversion:
