Summarization Hierarchies
The summarization hierarchy is an analysis tool which you can use to summarize upwards through hierarchies you have defined. You use the summarization hierarchy to stipulate the fields used for the data summarization and which object types (examples: project, internal orders) are summarized.
You use the summarization hierarchy in project management to summarize the transaction data for a particular timeframe and analyze it in various views at higher levels (example: project manager level).
The summarization hierarchy combines the objects per the nodes in the summarization hierarchy and stores the original data in summarized form in the database. You can access the data quickly at any time in the information system.
You use the summarization master data fields to define the individual hierarchy nodes in the summarization hierarchy. The master data fields available are those prescribed by SAP, plus the additional fields from customer enhancement CNEX0025. In summarization data maintenance, the system lists all the valid master data fields in the input help for the hierarchy fields.
The controlling area is always the top node in the summarization hierarchy. Below this, you can define the hierarchy levels as you require. For example, you can stipulate that your projects are summarized per the following structure:
· Controlling area (required)
· Project manager
· WBS element
You can then view all the data for a particular project manager and analyze the individual values for the WBS elements for this manager.
You also stipulate the object type you want to summarize. You can choose from the following:
· Internal orders
· Plant maintenance order and service orders
· Production orders
· Projects
· Sales orders
If you choose summarization of projects, dependent object types, such as networks, are automatically included in the summarization.

If you summarize different object types together, the summarization nodes (fields used for the summarization) must have the same name in the various objects.
You stipulate the setup for a summarization hierarchy by means of a hierarchy ID in one of the following:
· Project System IMG
· Information system menu
For detailed information on setting up the summarization hierarchy, refer to the Information System component in the Project System IMG.
