Object documentation Court Orders/Student Loans GB (Infotype 0070): Student Loans Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Definition

This infotype, used with the Collection of Student Loans subtype (CSL), allows you to record and deduct student loan repayments as specified by the Inland Revenue.

Use

All information used by the payroll to process student loan repayments is stored in the Court Orders/Student Loans GB (infotype 0070) records.

The system calculates the student loan deduction for an employee with reference to the current earnings thresholds and percentage deduction rates set by the Inland Revenue.

Note

These thresholds and deduction percentages are updated in the system each year, whenever new rates and thresholds are set by the Inland Revenue.

If an employee's earnings are above the specified threshold in any pay period, then a repayment is made. However, if earnings fall below this threshold, no repayment is made in such a period. Arrears do not accrue for the periods where repayments are not made.

Collection of Student Loans (CSL) deductions are shown on the employee's payslip. Employers are required to pass the CSL to the Collector of Taxes, together with tax and NIC remittance.

InfoSource documentation

As part of enhanced National Insurance Payroll handling, student loan payroll processing has also been amended to re-calculate loan contributions when payments have been deducted incorrectly from an employee.

For more information, see Structure linkNational Insurance Payment in Error.

Structure

Start and end dates of the infotype 0070 record

When you create a new student loan record, the start date for the record is defaulted to the current system date. You can manually reset this date as required. The end date is defaulted to the system high date of 31.12.9999.

Start Identification

In this section, make the following entries:

Notif. Source – Select one of the following start identifier for commencement of CSL deduction of   an employee:

     P45

     Start Notice (SL1)

     P46 Form

RTL2 – Select this option for recommencement of CSL deduction.

Issued/Rec – Enter the issue or receive date of the CSL deduction notification.

If you have implemented the e-Filing for Great Britain: Incoming component (PA-PA-GB), you upload electronic XML updates from the Inland Revenue into your SAP system via the UK Government Gateway. These updates inform you of any changes to an employee’s tax or PAYE details.

Example

When you electronically upload new or amended Collection of Student Loan data for an employee from the Inland Revenue, the relevant infotype 0070 record is delimited from the date that the new data is received, and a new infotype 0070 record is automatically created with the new CSL details.

The Process ID field is used to track such automatic changes made to an employee’s CSL infotype record. The new (or amended) infotype 0070 record, updated electronically via the e-Filing Incoming process, now contains a unique XML identifier code in the Process ID field. With this identification code, you can cross-check any changes to this infotype record with records of all CSL changes received from the Inland Revenue during e-Filing Incoming processing.

Stop Identification

In this section, make the following entries:

Notif. Source – Select one of the following stop identifiers for stopping CSL deductions of an employee:

     Stop Notice (SL2)

RTL1 Form – Select this option to stop the CSL deductions temporarily.

Issue /Recd – Enter a date with respect to RTL1 form, to notify the date on which this stop identifier was issued or received

If you have implemented e-Filing for Great Britain and this infotype record has been automatically updated when a SL2 stop notice is received, the field Process ID will be filled with a unique identification number, allowing you to trace the source of this change to your infotype data.

Note

The system performs priority sequencing of court orders and student loan repayments. Community Charge AEOs (Attachment of Earnings Orders) and Council Tax AEOs take priority over student loan repayments.

CSLs are treated as priority AEOs and are actioned on date if other priority AEOs also exist.
