Uniform Packaging Service (UPS) in Product Data Distribution

Use

In product data distribution, UPS is used in various distribution scenarios to distribute objects from mySAP Product Lifecycle Management across system boundaries. The UPS has the following advantages in comparison with existing ALE technology:

Only the necessary objects are distributed to specific target systems.

Reduction of the technical complexity of setting up packets
Technical completeness and data consistency can be ensured and redundancies can be avoided.
Process-oriented, user-friendly process, letting you navigate between the objects to be distributed, IDocs, and the application log.

Integration

Integration of the UPS and the replication workbench uses distribution type ALE, which you maintain in Customizing for Document Distribution.

In addition to the distribution type, you also enter a logical system in the replication workbench. The replication workbench also checks whether the logical system is defined. The system does not check whether the distribution model and partner profile used for this logical system has been defined as required (for example, IDoc types for distribution and message types).

Features

In product data distribution, the system automatically generates an ALE distribution unit with an ALE distribution packet for a distribution order package. The original packet contains the original object list. Correction packets (see also Corrections in the UPS), which you can create manually, contain changes to the original object list. You can add new objects, delete objects, or change objects.

The UPS status is returned to the replication workbench after completion of distribution.

The ALE distribution unit is the leading object during the data distribution process.

The distribution determines which data must be sent to which recipients, in order to ensure completeness.
