Process documentation Consolidation Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

The main contractor often assigns work to other areas, for example to a branch or subcontractor. Each branch or subcontractor has its own WBS element which is hierarchically assigned at a lower level in the work breakdown structure plan to the WBS element which assigned the activity.

In the construction industry it is also common practice to enter data values cumulatively  Because data is entered cumulatively the confirmed work values for the higher-level WBS element also include the work values for the lower-level recipient WBS element. This means that work values look like they have been posted twice in the overall project view. Data entry for contract values as well as the planned costs and revenues for the remaining plan is also cumulative. This also presents the problem of double postings.

To clean up the values and to prevent higher values being calculated for valuation of semi-finished constructions (profitability analysis), you carry out a consolidation.

...

       1.      You have structured the construction project so that all WBS elements permitted for consolidation belong to one project.

For more information on creating and maintaining projects see the Project System component in the SAP Library.

       2.      The work values and contract values for the higher-level WBS elements valid for the construction progress report already include the work and contract values of the lower-level WBS elements valid for the construction progress report. When you create a construction progress report, the system consolidates the values of the lower-level WBS element together with the immediate higher-level WBS element valid for the construction progress report, when you save the construction progress report.

       3.      The planned costs and planned revenues for the higher-level WBS elements valid for the construction progress report already include the planned values of the lower-level WBS elements valid for the construction progress report. When you make entries in a remaining plan, the system also consolidates the values for the lower-level WBS element when the remaining plan is saved.

For more information on consolidating construction progress reports and remaining plans, see Updating Consolidaton Data.
