Creating Input Fields 

Scenario

You want to create an additional input field for the industrial hygiene and safety data function. The field is to appear on the Example tab page and have the field description Emergency Exit. The field is not to have text entered manually, but is to have values assigned by means of the assignment of a phrase from a phrase set.

Prerequisites

You have created the Example tab page. To do this, you must have created a corresponding value assignment type when the system was set up and assigned it the required class. For more information, see Assign Value Assignment Types to Classes in the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Industrial Hygiene and Safety.

Activities

In the Classification System Component

...

       1.      On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Cross-Application Components ® Classification System ® Master Data ® Characteristics.

       2.      Create a characteristic with the following basic data:

¡        Description: Emergency Exit

¡        Data type: Character Format

¡        Number of chars.: 30

¡        Value assignment: Single Value

Setting the Single Value indicator means that only one phrase can be assigned to the field as a value assignment. If you set the Multiple Values indicator, a number of phrases can be assigned to the field.

       3.      Choose Goto ® Classification and assign to the characteristic the class you assigned to the value assignment type Example in Customizing (see "Prerequisites" section).

       4.      Save your entries.

In the Basic Data and Tools Component

...

...

       1.      On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Logistics ® Environment, Health and Safety ® Basic Data and Tools ® Phrases ® Edit Phrases.

       2.      Create the required phrases (see Creating Phrases).

       3.      Assign the phrases to a phrase set.

       4.      In the master data matchup function, run a value assignment type-characteristic matchup.

To access the master data matchup function, in the Basic Data and Tools menu choose Tools ® Match Up Master Data.

       5.      Assign the phrase set to the Emergency Exit characteristic in phrase set-to-attribute assignment.

       6.      In the master data matchup function, run Activate Phrasing of Characteristics.

This activates the phrase set as an input help for the Emergency Exit characteristic.

Result

You have added the Emergency Exit input field on the Example tab page. To assign a value to the field, call the input help and select a phrase.
