Composition
The
Composition
formula view contains the analytical composition of the output substances of
the formula with which it describes the properties of these
substances.
The composition of an output substance is process-specific. It describes the substance as it is created in the formula, that is, as the result of a specific process. You can define the process-independent composition of a substance in the property tree of the substance.

Depending on your Customizing settings, in formula explosion the system uses the composition from the formula in certain cases and the composition from the property tree in other cases. We therefore recommend that you configure the system so that it always uses the composition from the property tree. If you do not want to do this, you should make sure that the composition in the property tree for a substance matches the composition in the formula that contains the substance as a primary output and was marked as the preferred formula for the formula explosion. Only thus can you ensure that the system always uses the same composition for a substance.
In Customizing for Recipe Management, you
have specified the following for the
Composition formula view:
● In the IMG activity Set Up and Activate Formula Views, you have set up the formula view.
● In the IMG activity Specify Allowed Specification Types, you have specified which substance types you can use.
● In the IMG activity Define Allowed Units of Measure, you have specified which units of measure you can use.
● In the IMG activity Specify Formula View Parameters, you have specified whether the formula view is ready for input if you set the formula as being without a reaction or as a reaction of a specific category.
● In the IMG activity Specify Explosion Scopes, you have made the necessary settings for the formula explosion.
●
In the IMG activity Specify Parameters for Explosion
Scope, you have specified which formula view the
system uses in the formula explosion for formulas with and without a reaction,
to determine the data for the
Composition formula view.
In Customizing for
the Environment, Health and Safetycomponent, you have specified the following
for the
Composition formula view:
● In the IMG activity Specify Context-Specific Component Types, you have specified which component types you can use.
● In the IMG activity Specify Context-Specific Exception Values, you have specified which exception values you can use.
When you open the
Composition formula view, the system
determines the composition of the primary output of the formula, that is, it
determines the ingredients of the primary output. To do this, it performs a
cross-recipe formula explosion (see Calculation of
Composition).
If the
Composition formula view is not ready for
input, the system only displays the determined composition of the primary
output. You cannot change this composition and you cannot enter a composition
for secondary outputs. If the
Composition formula view is ready for
input, in addition to the displayed determined composition you can enter the
compositions of the output substances of the formula, and this for all output
substances that are entered in standard items in the
Input and Outputformula view.
In the composition you specify the ingredients, their proportional quantity in the output substance, and the corresponding tolerance range of the proportion. You specify an exception value for an item whose quantity cannot be determined exactly or not at all. This exception value specifies the type of exception or the reason for the exception.
With the
function with the quick info text Calculate
Template Values, you can transfer the determined composition data to the
composition you entered manually. Note the following here:
● If the formula already contains a manually entered composition for the selected output substance, this is overwritten.
● Regardless of which output substance you selected for data input, the system always determines the composition of the primary output only. This means that the transfer of the determined composition to the manually entered composition often only makes sense for the primary output.
With the Compare Calculated and Manual display mode, you can compare the data calculated and the data entered for an output substance.
The consistency of the data you entered is checked as follows (see Checking of Material and Substance Items):
● Per ingredient after you confirm your entries
● For all ingredients when you exit the view
You can save the data for
the
Composition formula
view in the property tree for the substance of the primary output if the
primary output is a substance, and in the property tree for the formula if the
primary output is a stream. Here you can decide whether the system should
transfer the calculated data or the manually entered data.
The data in the
Composition formula view is saved in the
database at the following points in time:
● If the view is ready for input, the system saves the data in the database as soon as you save your entries.
●
If the view is not ready for input, the
system saves the data only when you run the consistency check for the formula
and if you have specified in Customizing for Recipe
Management in the IMG activity Set Up and Activate
Formula Views that the
Composition
formula view is relevant for consistency. The system then calculates the
composition in the consistency check, saves the data in the database, and
displays this data in the
Composition view in the field for the
manually entered values.

When you run the consistency check for a formula with a composition view that is ready for input, the system does not recalculate the composition and also does not change an entered composition.
You can search for formulas using the composition data that is saved in the database.
To enter a composition, proceed as follows:
...
1. Load the formula for whose output substances you want to enter a composition and select the formula in the hit list or navigation area by double-clicking it.
2.
Choose the
Composition tab page.
3. In the Output Substance field, select the output substance whose composition you want to enter.
4. Choose the display mode Composition Entered Manually.
5. Enter the substances belonging to the composition and the proportions of these substances in the output substance.

You can transfer substances from the navigation area of the recipe workbench to the composition using drag and drop. For more information, see Drag and Drop and Editing Material and Substance Items.
If the calculated composition contains all substances for which you want to enter values in the composition, choose the Compare Calculated and Manual display mode. You then only need to enter the values for the substances and not the substances themselves. Also, you can see the calculated values directly and can immediately spot deviations from the calculated values, for example.
To save the composition in the property tree, proceed as follows:
...
1.
On the
Composition tab page, choose
with the quick info text Transfer to
Specification of Primary Output.
If the tab page is ready for input, that is, if you can also enter the composition manually, the Update Data in Specification dialog box appears.
2. In the dialog box, decide whether the calculated or manually entered data should be transferred, and confirm your entries.
