Examples 2 and 3 show the automatic completion of the structure with the help of BOMs and the meaning of the Relevant for Configuration Management flag in the material master record.

The exit situation is identical to example 2 with the exception of the settings in the material master.

Since the configuration of the pump P-100 plays a substantial role for the entire turbine T-30000 you have flagged material P-100 as relevant for Configuration Management.

First the system explodes the first level of the BOM as in example 2 (see example 2).

Material P-100 is flagged as relevant for Configuration Management. For this reason the system fixes the material master record. Then the system repeats the entire operation for pump P-100.

For pump P-100 a BOM with usage 2 (engineering/design) exists. The system

• includes the BOM in the Baseline.
• Creates a list of all change numbers with which the BOM has been processed and that have been released. The system copies this list into the Baseline.
• includes BOM item 10 in the Baseline.

Under BOM item 10 the system includes material 100-100 in the Baseline.

Materials 100-100 and M-3 not flagged as relevant. For this reason the system breaks of the search at this point. These materials are not fixed.
