Definition

An object for planning, managing, and evaluating the measurements performed and samples taken for a work area within a defined time period.

Structure

A measurement project is characterized by its project type. Depending on which project types you specified in Customizing, you can create measurement projects for the following project types, for example:

     Exposure measurement

     Work area analysis

     Analysis job

     Measurement on grounds of pregnancy

The measurement project also specifies which work area the project relates to and in which lower-level work areas measurements are to be performed. It stores all data that is entered in the course of the process from the planning stage to completion of the project.

The data in the measurement project is structured hierarchically. This hierarchical data structure is based on assignment levels to which you assign the corresponding work area types when you set up the system. When editing a measurement project, users can then use only work areas of the work areas types you assigned to the respective assignment level in Customizing. This means, for example, that only those work areas that correspond to this assignment level appear in the input help for the Site field.

Note

If a user enters the key of the respective work area directly, no check of the assignment levels is run. The system accepts the entry if the work area entered exists in the system.

The following table explains the various assignment levels:

Hierarchy Level

Assignment Level

Meaning

1

MPH: Header level of measurement project

MPH is the highest hierarchy level in the measurement project. It contains the highest-level work area to which the project relates.

2

MPW: Work area level

MPW contains the work areas and agents to be measured.

3

MJH: Measurement level

MJH contains for each work area at level MPW all measurements to be performed for the respective measurement methods. You cannot assign work area types for this level in Customizing.

4

MJW: Task level

MJW is the lowest hierarchy level in the measurement project. Here the tasks for which measurements were made are assigned to the measurements from MJH if necessary. “Task” in this context is understood as a work area that was defined as a task.

If you have not assigned work area types to the level MJW in Customizing, the relevant tab page does not appear on the measurement screen.

Setting the Assignment Levels

When you set up the system you must assign the assignment levels MPH, MPW, and MJW the work area types in your company that correspond to these levels. In this way, you map the (typically hierarchical) organization of your work areas to measurement management. In the standard system, a sample scenario is included that contains a structure broken down into “site” (MPH), “location” (MPW), and “task” (MJW). You can change these descriptions if you wish.

In addition to assigning work area types, you must specify which report categories reports can be generated for at each assignment level. In the standard system, the report category “log sheet” is assigned to the level MJH, for example. For more information on setting assignment levels, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Industrial Hygiene and Safety under Specify Assignment Levels.

Integration

If you have assigned a building to the work area to which the measurement project relates using the data integration function in the work area management (EHS-IHS-WA) component and you have set it as the main building, the system displays the key and the description of this building on the Basic Data tab page in your measurement project. For more information, see Data Integration.

Using data integration you can also assign contact persons to work areas. If you create a report template with the appropriate symbol, you can also print this contact person on a report for the measurement project, such as the measurement plan.
