Function documentation Material Exchange Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

The material exchange function makes it possible for you to exchange materials in SD documents for which no dangerous goods master records are specified with materials that have dangerous goods master records. The material exchange function is supplied as a customer exit to allow customer-specific adaptations to the flow logic. See also the documentation on the IMG activity Develop Enhancement for Mat. Exchange Multi-Comp. Explosion and the documentation on the SAP enhancement DG700003 .

Example

The following example explains a possible business scenario for a material exchange.

Separate materials are created for different pack sizes of the product Paint, that is for different articles. These article materials are not assigned to specifications and are therefore not linked to dangerous goods-relevant data.

5 l Paint (article 1)

10 l Paint (article 2)

An additional material Paint without a pack size that is assigned to a specification and for which dangerous goods-relevant data does exist can then be exchanged with the article materials 5 l Paint and 10 l Paint for dangerous goods checks and printing of dangerous goods-relevant data on documents.

As a result of the material hierarchy in many companies, it is necessary to check not the material in the SD document, because no dangerous goods master records are specified for it, but a material lower down in the hierarchy for which dangerous goods master records do exist. This type of material hierarchy reduces processing time and effort, as shown in the above example. Depending on certain properties (such as the material type), you also have the option of performing a material exchange.
