Procedure documentation Converting With Result Preview Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

Before you convert an iPPE product structure to a material BOM, you can check in the result preview which iPPE objects have been copied to the material BOM.

Prerequisites

In the settings (settings tab page), you have set the Result Preview indicator.

Procedure

  1. Start the conversion process.

The system decomposes the product structure and determines the conversion-relevant iPPE objects. You see the Result Preview screen.

  1. Check the objects.

The following two screen areas tell you which objects have been extracted for conversion.

Screen area

Use

Hierarchical structure tree

The structure tree shows the BOM objects (BOM header and BOM item) that represent the iPPE objects. The hierarchical sequence corresponds to the iPPE structure.

  • You can expand the structure node in the tree.
  • One object (such as M1) can occur more than once in the structure, for example as a header material of a subordinate assembly and as an item.
  • To see detail information on an object, select the object with a double-click, or choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text for the selected object.

On the All Objects tab page, and some other tab pages, the selected object is shown in a different color. You can check detail data, such as quantity data.
An object that occurs more than once in the product structure is only shown once on the tab page.

Tab pages for detail information

Several tab pages list the BOM objects that represent the iPPE objects.

On the individual tab pages, object lists are generated according to the following criteria:

  • Object type (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Header and This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Item)
  • Processing type (This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Created and This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Changed)
An object is only shown as created when it is first created. Once the object has been transferred to the material BOM, it has the status changed for all subsequent conversions.

Each list shows the objects with errors first. You can change the sort sequence. To restore the original sort sequence, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Original sort sequence.

  • If you need information on how an object is linked to the structure, select the object and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Identify object in tree. You can also use a double-click on the object to select it.
In the hierarchical structure tree, the selected object is shown in a different color.
If the selected object occurs more than once in the product structure, each use within the structure is shown.
  1. Check the status.

The following overview contains all the possible statuses.

Conversion is possible

Conversion to the BOM object was successful.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Error

Conversion is not possible due to an error. The This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Object Log contains a message on the cause of the error. You cannot convert the iPPE object until the error has been resolved.

If this error occurs for a BOM header, all subordinate BOM items have the status inherited error, right down to the lowest level.
If a subordinate item contains an error, the BOM header is marked with this error.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Inherited error

Conversion is not possible due to an error in a higher-level BOM object. The object that caused the error has the status error.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Status error

Conversion is not possible due to the status of the component variant. You cannot convert the iPPE object until the error has been resolved. You have two options:

  • In the iPPE workbench, set a status in the component variant that flags the component variant as released.
  • Run the conversion without checking the status. To do this, in the settings, on tab page Variant, set the Ignore Status of Variant indicator.
  1. Check the incorrect objects.

In the Log screen area below the tab pages, you can analyze the errors in two different logs:

You can display the log in a separate window, by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Display Log in Separate Window.

  1. Check the objects for which conversion is possible. These objects are transferred to the material BOM.
  1. Once you have checked the data, you can run the conversion.

Result

The system saves the iPPE data that has been extracted without errors (and changed in the engineering workbench) to the material BOM.
