Integrate Development Plan Items 

Use

If your application is integrated with Development Plans, you can include an employee’s individual development plan items in the appraisal process. You can add individual development plan items to an employee's appraisal document or configure the appraisal template so that all the development plan items in an employee’s development plan are integrated in the appraisal document.

You make the necessary Customizing settings at appraisal template level when you set up criteria groups and criteria.

You can include development plan items in the appraisal template as fixed or free enhancements by incorporating the relevant BAdI implementations available in the SAP standard system.

·         If you use the fixed enhancement, all an appraisee’s individual development plan items that lie in the validity period of the appraisal template are added to the appraisal document.
These items are integrated using the BAdI implementation ADD_IN_DEVELOPMENT.

·         If you use a free enhancement for the integration, the user can select individual development plan items from a dialog box and thereby add them to the appraisal document.
BAdI implementation ADD_IN_DEVPLAN_STATION is available for integrating these development plan items.
The development plan items offered for selection in the dialog box must also fulfill the prerequisites listed below. Furthermore, any items that have already been included in the document are not offered for selection.

 

It does not make sense to integrate a fixed and free enhancement simultaneously since any development plan items contained in the fixed enhancement are not available for selection when you use the free enhancement.

An appraisee’s individual development plan items are shown only in display mode. Changes made directly in the Objective Setting and Appraisals component are not supported.

Prerequisites

To integrate individual development plan items in the appraisal document, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

·         Individual development plan items must be assigned to the appraisee.
You can assign items in the menu under Personnel Management ® Personnel Development ® Planning ® Individual Development.

·         The validity periods of the individual development plan items and those of the appraisal document must overlap in such a way that the development plan items and the appraisal document have a common validity period.

·         The development plan items must have one of the following statuses:
- Planned
- Current
- Not Performed
Development plan items with the status Completed cannot be read.

Constraints

·         Individual development plan items of the object type Appraisal Model (BS) that originate from the former appraisal system of the Personnel Development component are not read.

·         Only one appraisee may be selected for each appraisal document.

Procedure

Include Implementations in the Appraisal Template

·        In your appraisal template, access the Columns tab page.

·        In the Dynamic Settings group box, choose the implementation you require from the input help.

¡        Fixed Enhancement – Add Individual Development Plan Items

¡        Free Enhancement – Add Development Plan Items

·        Choose a reference element from the input help or create a new reference element.
For more information about creating reference elements, see the system documentation and select the Info Button that is displayed to the right of the Reference Element field after you have selected the enhancement.

·        In the Appraisal Columns group box, store the following values from input help for the Part Appraisal and Final Appraisal columns:

                            a.      Individual Development

                            b.      In the Value Class field, choose the Development Plan Status entry.

                            c.      In the Value Determination field, choose the Current Status of Development Plan Item entry.
This entry is for the BAdI implementation CURRENT_STATUS, which reads the current status of the relevant development step and adds it to the appraisal document.

¡        In the Value Entry, choose No Entry.
This entry is used to display the current status of the development plan item.

¡        Save your entries.

Set Up Link to Appraisal Documents

To make the Display Development Profile pushbutton available, which allows the user to branch from the appraisal document to the development profile, proceed as follows:

...

       1.      At appraisal template level, choose the Layout tab page.

       2.      In the Relationship field, use the input help to choose the Display Individual Development link.

       3.      Save your entries.

Result

You have integrated individual development plan items in the appraisal template. You have set up a link between the appraisal document and the employee’s development profile. The development plan items can be used as objectives in the appraisal document.
