Function documentation Master Inspection Characteristics As a Copy Model or Reference Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You use a master inspection characteristic to be able to implement a ready-made system of inspection attributes for an inspection.

There are two ways of using a master inspection characteristic:

·        As a copy model

The system copies the inspection characteristics from those of the master inspection characteristic that you specify for an inspection. In the master recipe, you can change the inspection characteristic attributes for each individual inspection.

Note

You can also change some inspection characteristic attributes in the general or site recipe. When you transfer these values to the master recipe, they have priority over the values of the master inspection characteristic. Subsequent changes to master inspection characteristic attributes do not influence the inspection attributes in the recipe.

·        As a reference

The system creates a reference to the attributes of the master inspection characteristic. You cannot change the inspection characteristic attributes for the current inspection in the recipe.

Note

In this case, subsequent changes to the attributes of the master inspection characteristic influence the inspections that uses this master inspection characteristic as a reference.

Features

You can specify the possibilities for using the master inspection characteristic at different points in the system:

·        As a property of the master inspection characteristic itself:

If you specify the master inspection characteristic type as a reference characteristic, you can only use the master inspection characteristic as a reference in Recipe Management. This has the effect that a master recipe created by transformation also uses the master inspection characteristic as a reference.

Note

The Copy Model indicator is deselected and locked for these master inspection characteristics in the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text QM formula view.

·        In the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text QM formula view:

Here you can specify whether you want to use the master inspection characteristic as a reference or copy it. You do this via the Copy Model (Use Inspection Char. as Copy Model) indicator for master inspection characteristics of the type incomplete copy model or complete copy model.

Note

The master inspection characteristics of the type reference characteristic (see above) are identified by an X in the final column of the input help.

If you set the indicator, the system copies the attributes of the master inspection characteristic to the master recipe that was created by transformation.

Note

You can specify the attributes that are ready for input (for example, weighting of characteristic, characteristic category such as required or optional characteristics, and tolerance limits) in Recipe Management. The system transfers these attributes straight from the general or site recipe when it transforms them to master recipes.

·        You can restrict the possibilities for using the reference or copy model in Customizing for Recipes:

You can specify that master inspection characteristics can only be used as a copy model. This setting has the following effects:

¡        You can no longer use the master inspection characteristics of type reference characteristic for an inspection. The input help for the master inspection characteristic does not display these entries.

¡        The system selects and locks the Copy Model indicator in the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text QM view for all remaining master inspection characteristics.

You make this setting in Customizing for Recipe Management under Specify Environment Parameters using the Sets and Locks “Template” (Inspection Chars) indicator environment parameter.

Provided that you have not specified anything else in the master data of the master inspection characteristic or in Customizing, you can specify for each individual inspection, whether you want to copy the inspection characteristics of the master inspection characteristic or whether you want to create a reference to them.

Note

The Copy Model column in the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text QM formula view is hidden by default. You show the column by changing the column layout accordingly.

Caution

If you deselect the Copy Model indicator for an inspection, all detail data that you entered for the inspection in the bottom area is deleted.
