Creating an Engineering Structure
Before you create the engineering structure, the following engineering data must be maintained:
· In Customizing for Product and Process Engineering, the following activities have been performed:
- You have defined the iPPE node types for access and the structure node types for the requirements or goals.
- You have defined relationship types, so that an engineering structure can be modeled from these individual iPPE node types. These settings determine which relationships can be maintained for an iPPE object in an engineering structure.
See Managing Requirements and Goals (Engineering Structure)
· You have maintained the product structure and concepts for component variants (if required) in the iPPE workbench.
You can find additional information in the SAP Library in the Integrated Product and Process Engineering (CA-PPE) component.
·
Using
classification functions, you have created a product class or product
class hierarchy (class type 300 Configurable Objects). See
Classification
(CA-CL)
1. Start the product designer by choosing: Logistics ® Central Functions ® Engineering ® Product and Process Engineering ® Product Designer.
2. Create the access node for the engineering structure.
Choose the application PLM Environment and an iPPE object type that has been defined for access to an engineering structure. Enter the product class.
You can classify the access node (in classes of class type 053 for iPPE Nodes).
3. Create engineering nodes for the requirements or goals.
Choose the application PLM Environment and an iPPE object type that has been defined for engineering nodes in an engineering structure. Enter the product class.
You can classify the engineering node (in classes of class type 053 for iPPE Nodes).
4.
Use
relationships to link the nodes.
In the context menu of a node, under Create Relationships, there is a
list of all the relationships that can be maintained for an iPPE object.
For example, use the context menu to create the following relationships for an engineering node:
Relationship to an access node of a product structure
Relationship to an engineering node that has been defined for an engineering structure
Relationship to a concept
See Linking
Concept and Engineering Structure

The selection of relationships that you can maintain for an iPPE object in the application early engineering is defined in your company-specific settings in Customizing for Integrated Product and Process Engineering (iPPE).
The final engineering structure documents all the requirements and goals for the product of the selected product class.
