Definition

Description of the requirements that must be met in a specific manufacturing process (compare Recipe according to ISA, standard S88).

A recipe comprises the material, substance, process, and resource data of a manufacturing process. Depending on the application area, the type of data ranges from a general description of the requirements to concrete procedural instructions for a specific production plant. However, recipes are always independent of the dates of an order and contain no equipment control functions.

Use

Recipes are master data of production planning. They are the basis for enterprise-wide planning and investment decisions, site-related long-term planning, and the plant-specific conversion of a manufacturing process. Depending on the application area and enterprise area, this results in different recipe types. The following recipe types are available in the standard system. They can be used as templates for your own recipe types:

·        General recipe (according to S88)

·        Site recipe (according to S88)

·        Master recipe (according to S88)

Structure

A recipe is made up of the following elements:

·        The recipe header with information about change statuses, their validity, statuses, and reference language as well as the objects linked to the recipe (such as projects)

·        A list of all products manufactured in the process along with the components and quantities required

·        A description of the process, this means the process steps and their parameters

·        A list of the plant equipment and resources required for the individual process steps

Note

The recipe consists of several tab pages on which the data relevant to the entire recipe is grouped according to subject. The tab pages are defined in Customizing for Recipe Management as so-called views. In the formula, you enter product and component data of plant-independent recipes.

Up to now, you could link master recipes to a production version that, in turn, refers to the master recipe and bill of material (BOM) in the standard system that can be used for production. Now you can create master recipes directly from the general or site recipe using the transformation function.

Integration

You can link recipes to higher- or lower-level recipes in a recipe hierarchy. In this way, you assign, for example, the site recipes derived from a general recipe to this recipe and the master recipes created from a site recipe to this site recipe (see Recipe Hierarchy).

In addition, you can use classification to group recipes according to your own criteria (see Classifying Recipes).

Documents such as standard operating procedures (SOPs) or plant graphics can be stored centrally in the SAP Document Management System and linked to the relevant recipes (see Texts and Documents).
