Component documentation Framework for Object Explosion (FOX) Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

The Framework for Object Explosion (FOX) was designed to let you explode Objects. FOX lets you explode any objects you like, in large numbers, at the same time, and fast.

Starting from one or more access objects (top objects), dependent objects that are related to the access object (see also Object Relationship) are determined in a recursive explosion process. The explosion process is controlled by an explosion profile (see also Customizing for Product Data Distribution ® Configuration Management ® Define Explosion Profiles).

The Validities of each object found are determined in the form of Alternative Dates and Change Numbers.

Features

Starting from the access objects (top-level objects), a recursive explosion of all dependent objects runs. Any filters set in the explosion profile for object types or object relationships are read.

For each object, the system checks whether it is valid in the explosion context (explosion profile). Then its object data and validities are determined, and in a second step its dependent objects.

FOX manages all the objects found per explosion context, with their object relationships and validities. Within an explosion context, each object is exploded only once.

Explosions for different explosion contexts (explosion profiles) are managed in different memory areas.

The entire data for an explosion context encompasses all the top objects exploded in this context and all their dependent objects. This data can be saved to a compact storage or transferred to a program that calls the explosion.

Constraints

Changes of plant that are triggered by the special procurement key (SOBSL) are ignored in explosions by FOX.
