Tax Number

Definition

Use

All companies in Portugal have their own tax number, the NIF number. You use this number for reporting to the tax authorities and you have to display it, along with the company address, on all tax-related documents.

Note

You have to maintain:

The NIF number of your vendors in field Tax Number 1 in your vendor master records
The NIF number of your customers in field Tax Number 1 in your customer master records
The NIF number of your company code in field VAT registration no. in your company code global data

Structure

The NIF number has nine digits without any gaps. In Country Version Portugal a check rule has been set for the field Tax Number 1. In Customizing for General Settings, choose Set countries ® Set country-specific checks. Select PT and choose Details.
