You can expand individual nodes by one level by clicking on the plus sign. Expand the individual objects completely by highlighting them using the left mouse button and choosing Expand from the icon bar. The compressing function works in the same way.

If you want to expand or compress the entire structure completely, select Expand All or Compress All. This function works no matter where the cursor is positioned.
