Log Viewer
The Log Viewer is a tool to display log messages. These messages assist you to monitor and diagnose problems.
The Log Viewer (LV) does the following:
· Displays application and system logs. The messages in log files provide hints to the cause of problematic application behavior.
· Displays different logs side by side
· Gives insight into system problems
· Helps with debugging
· Improves performance by providing insights into the inner workings of applications
· Displays information in a useful form, because Log Viewer understands the information in a log
· Brings logs together from the J2EE server and related systems in one place (Integrated Log Viewer)
· Searches logs. You can run a query across many logs with a specific severity level selected, while searching for information in specific logs.
· Merges logs across servers, based on time stamps in each record
· Shows archived logs
· Allows control of the amount of log data created with log severity thresholds
· Creates CCMS templates so that the logs can be monitored in the ABAP central monitoring system. Alerts are then generated in the CCMS.
· Can add logs from client and server machines for viewing
· The SAT logs show execution times for user transactions. The SQL trace provides details on the database interactions through the OpenSQL interface.
SAP NetWeaver Administrator is the new
Web Dynpro-based tool for administration and monitoring, offering a central
entry point to the whole SAP NetWeaver system landscape. In the Logs &
Traces plug-in of the SAP NetWeaver Administrator you can view all list and
text formatted logs and traces that are generated from the whole SAP NetWeaver
system landscape. For more information, see
Log and Trace Analysis
in SAP NetWeaver Administrator.
This is the online tool where all the logs written from the J2EE Engine and the running applications are automatically registered. For more information, see Integrated Log Viewer
Consists of Log Viewer server and Log Viewer client. Logs from a System Landscape can be viewed centrally in one Standalone Log Viewer client, if one Log Viewer server runs on every host. For more information, see Standalone Log Viewer
LV command line tool converts all files written by the SAP Logging API using the ListFormatter into a human readable format (TraceFormatter). For more information, see Command Line Log Viewer
The Logviewer Client also starts its own integrated server, which can be used to quickly add and view logs without the need of either an Online Logviewer or Standalone Server.
This integrated Logviewer Server is also used, when taking advantage of the double-click feature.
For the latest information on the bug fixes for the Log Viewer, see SAP Note number 621466.
