Function documentation Baselining Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

A Structure linkbaseline serves as a container for the product data to be distributed. In a baseline, you group together the objects that are to be distributed to other systems. A function for explosion of the product structure supports you here.

Note

As long as a configuration folder is not fully defined or modified, you may want to lock the folder temporarily for baselining This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

Process Flow

  1. You request a baseline for a target date (see also Requesting a Baseline in the Replication Workbench).

The system copies the objects from the configuration folder to the baseline.

The baseline has the status requested (CBRE). With this status, you can:

  1. You start the structure explosion.
  2. The system explodes the product structure and determines the objects belonging to the product (see also Framework for Object Explosion (FOX)). These objects are copied to the structure of the baseline. If you have deactivated the setting Compact Storage in Customizing for PLM Product Data Replication under Explosion Profile, you can postprocess the structure.

  3. You fix the baseline (see also Fixing a Baseline). This step is optional.

The baseline gets the status fixed (CBAS). The structure of the baseline is frozen and can no longer be changed. In addition to the structure of the baseline, the actual objects can be fixed with this option (materials, documents, and BOMs), to prevent changes.

Recommendation

Once a baseline has been fixed, you can no longer delete it.

We recommend you not to fix baselines for product data distribution. When creating a baseline, leave the Explode and Fix Immediately indicator inactive.
