Activity Elements

Definition

Activity subordinate to another activity specifying this activity.

Example

The activity Production can be subdivided into the elements Produce power unit and Produce housing. Or you can create an external element for the activity Engineering/Design, if for instance a detailed design is to be performed by an external company.

Use

There are the same categories for activity elements as for activities themselves in the Project System:

General costs elements
External processing elements
Internal processing elements

You can create activity elements for every activity.

Activity elements contain the same information as activities:

A work center can be assigned to them.
They can be assigned to WBS elements
The operative level for costing and confirmations is determined by the control key.
The dates for the activity elements are calculated with respect to the start date or the finish date of the corresponding activity. Enter an offset to the start or finish of the activity to specify the start/finish of the activity element.

Note

You cannot allocate materials, or assign milestones, documents or production resources/tools to activity elements. Activity elements do not have relationships.
