Marking a Network for Summarization
Use
You can summarize networks according to the summarization hierarchy using master data characteristics in the project information system. You can also continue to use the
Project Summarization Using Classification that was used in previous releases. However, this type of summarization will not be available in the short-term.
You can change networks which are summarized using classification to projects which are summarized using master data characteristics.
In order to summarize a network using master data characteristics you must mark the network header for summarization. You can mark the individual activities for summarization in the network, if they do not completely inherit the characteristics of the higher-level activity during the inheritance run, but rather should be supplemented with the characteristics only.

Prerequisites
You have set the indicator for Summarization and Master Data in the network profile in Project System Customizing. This automatically marks the network for summarization. However, this indicator is not visible in the network header.

In the network profile you can set the indicator for project summarization to reserve activities as summarization objects. This means these objects will be marked for summarization automatically when created. If you decide to set this indicator be sure that the number of summarization objects in the network are kept to a minimum. A large number of summarization objects can negatively affect the performance of inheritance and summarization runs.
Procedure

If you create a network with a template, the network is marked for summarization according to the template, and furthermore independent of the settings in the network profile of the new network. For example, if you use a network or standard network as a template which is marked for summarization using classification, the new network will also be marked for summarization using classification.
