Use

When you create a project definition, WBS element, or project version you can have the system suggest the next free project number or project key.

Procedure

  1. Depending upon your task proceed as follows:

    Create a project definition

    Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Open Number

    Create a WBS element in the WBS element overview

    Enter the level and description for the new WBS element and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text .

    A dialog box appears.

  2. Enter a number range for the search.
  3. Enter a strategy for the search (search from the beginning or the end of number range).
  4. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

    5. Depending on the chosen search strategy, the next free number starting at either the start value or the finish value is suggested.

    By choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text you can have the system suggest further numbers.

  5. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

The system adopts the number.

Example

Projects P001, P123, and P126 exist in the system. If you select Find next open number, the system will propose P002. If you select Find number after last assigned, the system will propose P127.
