Creating a Work Breakdown Structure By Copying

Use

When you create a new work breakdown structure, you can use an existing work breakdown structure, part of a project hierarchy, or a standard work breakdown structure as a template.

If you have already created a work breakdown structure, you can use WBS elements from other project or a standard work breakdown structure as a template to be included as new WBS elements. For more information, see Including WBS Elements in the Project Hierarchy

When you create a work breakdown structure (project) by copying an existing one, the project definition and the following master data are copied:

Organization Data

Calendar

Time unit

Operative indicators

Procedure

1. From the Operative structures menu choose Work breakdown structure ® Create.

The initial screen appears.

2. Enter the relevant data on the initial screen.

Enter a new number for the work breakdown structure or let the system propose the next free number

If you enter a project profile, it will override the project profile in the WBS that was copied.

3. Choose Goto ® Project definition.

The Create Project Definition screen appears.

4. Check the data that was copied to the project definition and make any necessary changes.

5. Choose Goto ® WBS.

The Create Project: Include WBS Elements screen appears.

6. Select the WBS elements you want to include.

7. Enter new numbers for these WBS elements.

- Choose Edit ® Key ® Predefine to give all WBS elements the same new number, which you can use to form new WBS element numbers.

- Choose Edit ® Key ® Replace to replace part of each WBS element number with a common character string.

8. Choose Edit ® Include.

You receive an error message if the selected WBS elements could not be included. In this case, choose Edit ® Key ® Check. An error log appears. Correct the numbers of the WBS elements that the system could not include and then choose Edit ® Include.

The system includes the WBS elements in the project The Create Project Definition screen appears.

9. Enter other data for the work breakdown structure as required.

10. Save the project.
