Use

You can change the project hierarchy in the hierarchy graphic. You can use the hierarchy graphic to change the project hierarchy, for example, you can add unassigned WBS elements to the project hierarchy or you can move subtrees.

Adding Separate WBS Elements to the Hierarchy

  1. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.
  2. The cursor changes to a pencil.

  3. Use the pencil to click on the WBS element in the project hierarchy you want to connect to the separate WBS element.
  4. While holding down the mouse button, use the pencil to draw a line to new WBS element.
  5. The figure shows in which direction you must draw the line in order to add the WBS element to the hierarchy.

    When you release the mouse button, this WBS element is inserted into the project hierarchy.

  6. To exit the connecting mode, click anywhere in the graphic with the left mouse button.

Separate WBS Elements from the Hierarchy

You can change the project hierarchy by separating WBS elements or subtrees from the project hierarchy.

  1. Click the WBS element that you want to separate from the project hierarchy.
  2. The WBS element is selected.

  3. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text .

The WBS element and all subordinate elements are removed from the project hierarchy.

If you want to connect separated WBS elements or subtrees to another area in the project hierarchy, follow the steps above.

Move WBS Elements Within a Level

  1. Place the cursor on the WBS element that you want to move.
  2. Click and hold down either the middle (3-button mouse) or right (2-button mouse) button.
  3. Use the mouse to move the WBS element to a new position.
  4. Release the mouse button.

The WBS element is relocated.

Note

Even if you have budgeted or planned costs for a WBS element, you can still move it within a level.
