Time Evaluation Business Rules
A time evaluation business rule (business rule for short) defines the processing steps of time evaluation required to execute a time-management task, and the sequence of the steps. It represents a regulation as stipulated by an employer, collective agreement, or union. It specifies the processing steps for which time-management regulations are to be checked or processed over multiple personnel assignments.
In the business subjects, you specify the individual steps that the system has to process to generate particular time balances, quotas, message types, and wage types. To do so, you group all Time Evaluation processing steps that are required to generate these results. Technical processing steps, such as importing data and error checks, are not included.
Business rules generally consist of several Time Evaluation processing steps. This means that a time evaluation overtime rule, for example, consists of the following steps:
· Determine the hours of overtime worked (using the GOT, PTIP, or ACTIO functions, for example)
· Time wage type selection (GWT M)
· Reduction, if required (LIMIT)
You define in the business rule the sequence in which the individual processing steps have to be processed by specifying a sequence number and the required row of the schema. If you want to process multiple personnel assignments jointly for a time evaluation function, you also specify that joint processing is necessary.

When you process overtime rules, you are likely to process the time evaluation functions GWT and LIMIT jointly for multiple personnel assignments to be able to analyze the overtime the employee worked for all personnel assignments.
You define the purpose of a business rule by assigning it to a time evaluation business subject. Reminder: In the business subject, you define which time balances, quotas, and so on you want to be generated. A business rule can therefore be executed only within a business subject and therefore has a predefined result, such as a particular wage type or time balance.
You assign the combination of business subject and business rule to the personnel assignment grouping values. This enables you to define which of the employee’s personnel assignments you want the business rule to be valid for.
Not all Time Evaluation processing steps (schema rows) are relevant for joint processing of multiple personnel assignments. Some do not generate results that can be assigned precisely to one time-management task. You therefore do not need to assign them to a processing step. This includes time evaluation functions such as those for importing data or error checks.
The Time Evaluation functions must be released for processing. See also the SAP Note 516489.
