Function documentation Explosion of Objects in Product Data Distribution Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You use this function to complete the structure of a baseline.

Prerequisites

You have assigned an explosion profile to the baseline (see also the Implementation Guide (IMG) for PLM Product Data Distribution, under Configuration Management ® Define Explosion Profile).

Features

Starting from the controlled object and the objects that are already in the structure, the system explodes the product structure and determines the objects that describe the product.

Explosion Parameters

On the Baseline tab page in the Explosion Parameters group frame, you restrict which change statuses are read for the structure explosion:

You can choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text to display the detail information for the last explosion profile used.

In this field, the system copies a default value from the explosion profile. You can overwrite this default value in the baseline.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

If you distribute change statuses that are older than the change statuses in previous distributions to a target system, this can lead to inconsistent data for several object types. For this reason, we recommend that you only overwrite the default value in exceptional cases.

If you enter a value here, the system only reads the change numbers and change statuses whose valid-from date is before this limit.

All other explosion parameters are in the explosion profile. You define the explosion profile in Customizing for PLM Product Data Distribution. For further information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for PLM Product Data Distribution, under Configuration Management ® Define Explosion Profile.

You can choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text to display the detail information for the current explosion profile.

If you do not select an explosion profile, the system takes the explosion profile from the assigned configuration folder.

Here, you define the type for the controlled object. The system provides you with the necessary fields for the controlled object, according to the selection you make.

Controlled Object

You enter the Structure linkcontrolled object.

Application Log

The explosion process is logged in an application log.

Choose Goto à Display Log.

Result of Structure Explosion

The structure of the baseline is shown in the bottom left-hand screen area, in hierarchical form.

Avoiding Redundant Substructures

If an assembly is used multiple times in a structure, and the explosion result is identical in all instances of the assembly, only one of the instances is shown in the structure of the baseline. A redundant display of identical substructures is avoided to improve system performance.

Object Types

The following objects in mySAP Product Lifecycle Management can be exploded with FOX:

In product data distribution, the following object types are not supported:

There are interdependencies between the PLM objects on many levels, which can be exploded in FOX (see also Finding Dependent Objects).
