You can display a thumbnail from a graphical file. You can visualize the content of an original application file without starting the workstation application that was used to create the graphical file.

An external converter creates the thumbnails. You organize the conversion process according to your enterprise-specific requirements. Be sure when selecting the converter that it is able to convert the source format of an original application file into the target format of a thumbnail.

You need one of the following 2D formats for thumbnails (raster image files):

• CompuServe (*.gif)
• JFIF Compliant (*.jpeg, *.jpg, *.jpe)

In Customizing (IMG) for Document Management you have:

• Maintained the workstation application that is to display the thumbnails for the selected document type, under General Data ® Define Workstation Application.
• Determined the workstation application for the thumbnails; under Set Up WebDocuments (BSP) ® Determine Application for Thumbnails.

Having created a thumbnail for the graphical original application file with the help of the converter, you then have to create this thumbnail as an original application file in the document info record.

You can display thumbnails in the following processing situations:

• Display Document

• Results List for Document Search

• If a thumbnail exists for an original application file, the document is indicated with the icon (Thumbnail). You can display the thumbnail by clicking the mouse on the icon.

• You can display the thumbnails for all documents in the results list by choosing the Thumbnails function. The thumbnails are listed in rows on the new page.
  You can navigate through an extensive list by scrolling. To improve orientation, the ToolTip contains the document key data. If no thumbnail exists for a document, then a placeholder is displayed.
