Handling Unit
A handling unit is a physical object representing a specific vehicle for which activities are planned and executed in the yard.
YM utilizes the handling unit (HU) to represent a vehicle in the yard. In addition, for each delivery assigned to a vehicle, the system automatically creates a “logical” HU as a lower-level HU to the “vehicle” HU.

Since vehicles cannot contain deliveries (they can only contain other HUs or materials), the system creates logical HUs with the relevant delivery number in each HU’s header, in order to keep track of the deliveries assigned to a vehicle.
HUs in
YM are an extension of the existing HU concept in
Handling Unit Management (LO-HU). For more
information on the general definition, structure and use of handling units,
see
Handling
Unit.
You can view the detailed HU data for a vehicle, including hierarchical display of HUs and the deliveries contained in the logical HUs, via the Display HU details monitor method. For more information, see Yard Monitor Methods.
In addition to the normal HU attributes, an HU in YM consists of the following attributes (in HU header):
· Yard
· Transport equipment stock status
· Sealing number
· Blocking indicator and reason code
· Door and staging area
· Urgency (for cross-docking purposes)
· Planned times
· Reference document information required for scheduling
· Location and location class
· Container ID
· Forwarding agent, owner and transponder information
Handling units can comprise of lower level handling units.
