Function documentation Distribution (ALE) of Dangerous Goods Master Records Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can use distribution of dangerous goods master records if you have created dangerous goods master records for the SAP component Dangerous Goods Management in a source system. This reduces the amount of data you have to edit. The source and target systems must function in the same way as an SAP system. Since data in an SAP system can also be required in one of the other SAP systems, data exchange using Application Link Enabling (ALE) makes the distribution of data possible between networked systems.

Log

Data Flow

You can edit dangerous goods master data in several source systems. The dangerous goods master data can be grouped together in a consolidation system. You start distribution to the target systems from the consolidation system. In each target system you can also set up distribution by setting the Update indicator in the IMG activities Specify Checkbox Structure for Dangerous Goods Master and Specify Checkbox Structure for DG Packing Requirementso that only those fields selected with this indicator are distributed to the respective target system.

In the source system you can select dangerous goods master records by specifying intervals for the material and dangerous goods regulation.

You can also use intervals to specify the target systems to which you want to distribute the dangerous goods master records.

Master data records that already exist in the target system are split at the selection date during distribution. Up to the selection date, the data record in the target system remains unchanged; from the selection date onward the data record is taken from the source system. This behavior is independent of whether the selection date is in the past or future or if it is today’s date. If the selection date is in the past, the system issues a warning.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

The SAP system supports the distribution of dangerous goods master records between systems that use different SAP components. It is a good idea to have different SAP components set up on several systems for the following reasons:

·        Distribution of tasks within the organization

·        Different release versions of the SAP components, where no upgrade of the individual components is required

·        Reduced amounts of data in one system, for example, because only data for certain dangerous goods master records is required in an EH&S system

·        Improvement in performance because data is distributed among different hardware

Prerequisites

·        You have created the relevant material master records in both the source and the target systems.

Note

You must subsequently add environmentally relevant data (dangerous goods indicator profile, Viscous substance indicator, In bulk/liquid indicator) manually in the material master records in the target system, if necessary.

·        You must edit the Customizing tables for the dangerous goods master in the target system exactly as they are in the source system.

·        Customizing for ALE in which you define the logical names for the source and target systems must be edited in both the source and target systems.

·        If you use engineering change management, you must have also created in or distributed to the target systems the relevant change numbers you used to edit the dangerous goods master records in the source system.

·        Dangerous goods master records that are being processed in the target system cannot be updated or changed.

·        The settings regarding the phrase-enabled fields must be identical in the source and target systems and the corresponding phrases must exist in both systems.
