Batch Determination for Process and Production Orders
You can use batch determination in process and production orders to
If you do not want to reserve at batch level in the production/process order, but consider reservation at material level adequate, you can also run batch determination when you process a consumption posting for an order (see section
Triggering Batch Determination for Goods Issues). You can use the following methods to allocate the selection criteria:
The above list is identical to the sequence the system follows when it attempts to find a selection class.

You use a certain raw material to manufacture 9 materials. You require batches with identical specifications for the production of eight of these materials, to produce the ninth material you require more detailed specifications. In this case, you create a search strategy for the raw material. For the ninth material, you classify the corresponding BOM item. As the system chooses selection classes using the sequence described above, the batches required for the eight materials are found using the search strategy, for the ninth material, the raw material is found using the selection class with which you classified the BOM item.
Even if the system does not use a search strategy to determine the selection criteria but one of the above methods, it nevertheless uses the batch determination rules (number of batch splits, sort rule etc.) specified in the search strategy. This means, you always have to maintain a search strategy.
