Procedure documentation Defining an Active Concept Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

Engineering processes only use the data of an active concept. It is read in the following processes:

·        During the test phase, you can simulate the implementation of an active concept.
In the simulation, the data of the active concept replaces the data of the component variant. The product structure no longer contains data from the concept group or the concepts.

·        In the advanced concept phase, you can copy the data of the active concept to the component variant.

Note

You can define one concept as the active concept.

When you create the first concept in a concept group, the first concept automatically becomes the active concept. Once you have added at least one more concept, you can define another concept as the active concept.

Prerequisites

You have maintained the product structure in the iPPE Workbench. The product structure contains a component variant that has a concept group with at least two concepts. Choose the following path: Logistics ® Central Functions ® Engineering ® Product and Process Engineering ® Product Designer.

See Creating a Concept Group

Procedure

Start the product designer in change mode. Load the product structure, and display the Basic data 1 tab page for the component variant This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

...

       1.      Scroll down until you see the Concept Reference dataset.

       2.      Check the entry for the concept group.
On the Basic Data 1 tab page, only the active concept is shown.

       3.      If you check the concepts and want to define a different concept as the active concept, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Detail View) for the concept group.

The Concepts This graphic is explained in the accompanying text tab page appears.

In the Active column, you select the concept whose data transfer you want to simulate or execute.

       4.      To save your data, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

Result

You have defined the selected concept as the active concept. The product structure is automatically updated in the navigation area.

The concepts are shown with the following indicators:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text     Inactive concept

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text     Active concept

The active concept is used in the following processes:

·         Simulating Data Transfer

·         Copying Concept Data to the Component Variant

Note

We recommend that you do not delete an active concept. If you delete an active concept, you see a warning message. In this case, define another concept as the active concept.
