Process documentation Distribution with ALE Distribution Units Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

Product data distribution with ALE distribution units allows you to distribute data from a source system to one or more target systems.

Prerequisites

Process Flow

Sending of data

In the source system, the data is collected together in an ALE distribution unit, and sent to the assigned target system. Steps 2 to 4 can be performed by the system, if you have defined the relevant settings in Customizing for UPS.

  1. The system automatically creates an ALE distribution unit.
  2. You check the object list of the ALE distribution unit (status saved, see also UPS-Status) and make any changes you require.
  3. You release the original packet (status released). Release is only possible if the object list has been serialized (see also Object Serialization).
  4. You sent the ALE distribution packets of the ALE distribution unit. To send, a background job is started. The ALE distribution packets get the status distributed. The status of the ALE distribution unit is determined from the status of the assigned packets.
  5. You can postprocess the IDocs if required (Outbound à Process IDocs).
  6. See also Message Status in the Object List

  7. You create a correction packet if required.
  8. You release the correction packet and send it before posting the ALE distribution unit to the target system.
  9. In the source system, wait for the confirmations that the target system sends when status changes occur.

Receiving data

In the target system, the data is received. This assumes that an ALE distribution unit has been received from the source system. Steps 1 to 3 can be performed by the system, if you have defined the relevant settings in Customizing for UPS.

  1. You check the object list and process it if necessary (local corrections). Identify any missing IDocs (Inbound à Find Object IDocs).
  2. You approve or reject the ALE distribution unit. To execute this step, all IDocs must have been transferred to the target system.
  3. You post the IDocs. After posting in the target system, a status-relevant confirmation is sent to the source system. For more information on posting, see Object Posting.
