Dangerous Goods Classification
The dangerous goods classification (specification of the specification type dangerous goods classification) assigns the dangerous goods regulation data to a material in accordance with a dangerous goods regulation. You use the dangerous goods classification to classify a real substance and therefore also a material in terms of dangerous goods regulations. You specify dangerous goods information that refers to regulations, such as identification number (for example, UN number), dangerous goods description (for example, proper shipping name), dangerous goods class, hazard item number, and packaging information, by assigning this information to a UN-listed substance.
Information concerning the dangerous goods letter and the packing group is contained in the risk potential. You can assign the material to the dangerous goods classification directly or via a real substance.

For information about the hazard item number and dangerous goods letter, see also Dangerous Goods Structure Reform.
The identification number is directly linked to a UN-listed substance. You enter the appropriate dangerous goods class for this UN-listed substance in the specification management component in EH&S in accordance with the dangerous goods regulations.
The dangerous goods
classification is created as a specification of the specification type dangerous goods classification in the
specification
management component. Here you can:
· Simultaneously classify all materials that are assigned to a real substance
·
Assign the
dangerous goods classification as a
reference to any
number of real substances
This reduces the amount of data you need to enter.

Referencing is supported by dangerous goods filling.
Dangerous goods data is created for a specification of specification type UN-listed substance. The identification number is assigned to this specification as an identifier of identification category Number and of identification type Identification number. You can use the identification listing D_DANGOOD to set the derivation of the identification number to suit your requirements. The EH&S Dangerous Goods Regulations property tree is assigned to the specification type UN-listed substance in the system. The property tree contains the value assignment type Dangerous Goods Regulations of value assignment category Additional data for dangerous goods. You manage the dangerous goods data from within the value assignment type Dangerous Goods Regulations.
The dangerous goods data of a UN-listed substance always refers to a particular dangerous goods regulation and dangerous goods class and includes:
· Risk classification
For defined combinations that are made up of dangerous goods letters and packing groups (corresponds to risk potential), you enter which quantities can be transported on each transport unit and assign the packing instruction number.
· Packaging code approval
Depending on the risk potential and the packaging code, you specify which maximum quantities are approved for each.
· Transport approval
Depending on the risk potential and the transport type, you specify whether transport is approved.
· Packing requirement
To specify
special packing provisions, choose
with the
quick info text Special Provisions on the Packing Requirements tab page.
· Provisions for carriage
You create the dangerous goods classification as a specification of specification type Dangerous goods classification. The EH&S Dangerous Goods Classification property tree is assigned to this specification type. The property tree contains the value assignment type Dangerous Goods Classification of value assignment category Transport classification.
Depending on the dangerous goods regulation, you use the corresponding UN-listed substance within value assignment type Dangerous Goods Classification to define the assignment of the identification number and the dangerous goods class to the dangerous goods classification. You categorize the other dangerous goods data by choosing the relevant risk potential.
The dangerous goods classification (specification of specification type Dangerous goods classification) refers to materials. You can assign the materials in two ways:
· Specifications of specification type Dangerous goods classificationcan be used as reference specifications This is defined in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools in the IMG activity Specify Specification Types. In this way, you can assign real substances to the dangerous goods classification. You can also assign materials to the real substances and in this way, assign all materials that belong to a real substance to a dangerous goods classification at the same time.
· If a dangerous goods classification is required that differs from the assigned real substances, you assign the necessary dangerous goods classification to this material directly using material-to-specification assignment. In this case, Customizing also allows materials to be assigned to specifications of the specification type Dangerous goods classification.

However, the material must remain assigned to the real substance to which it belongs if the link to material safety data sheet shipping is to be set up.
You use referenced UN-listed substances if there are different descriptions for the same dangerous goods regulation data, for example, paint and paint-related material for UN number 1263. This therefore reduces the amount of data you have to enter.

You enter UN-listed substances 1263 (paint) and 1263 (paint-related material) with the different descriptions. Then you create a common UN-listed substance with the regulation data and refer the UN-listed substances 1263 (paint) and 1263 (paint-related material) to the common UN-listed substance.
You create hazard inducers as specifications of any specification type. You must have created identifiers of identification listing D_DGHIS for hazard inducers.
You can use all dangerous goods basic data that you entered in the specification database for filling the dangerous goods master data.
