Purpose

In this section, you can find information about the comprehensive data analysis functions that are available in the Business Explorer.

Features

Conditions

You can formulate conditions to restrict the results area of a query in accordance with certain criteria. For example, you can apply the definition that you only see products that have a revenue above a certain threshold value.  You can also apply the definition that you want to see the five lowest selling products. In other words, you can use conditions to restrict the results area of a query so that you only see a part of the result area for which you are interested.   For more information, see Conditions.

Exceptions

You can define threshold values (exceptions) for a query. Data that varies from these thresholds are marked in different colors. You can use these exceptions to spot extraordinary variations from expected results straight away.  For more information, see Exception Reporting.

Formatting

You can adjust formatting settings in various areas of the system for the numerical display of key figures.

For more information, see Priority Rule with Formatting Settings.

Background information for aggregates, calculation times and result rows

In this section, you can find information about which dependencies exist between data collection (aggregation) and data calculation, and how performance is affected.  We also provide background information so you can interpret the result rows.

For more information, see Aggregation and Calculation Time of Data and Interpreting Result Rows.

Local Calculations

You can re-calculate result rows and single values on a report based on certain criteria. In so doing, you can override the standard calculations of the OLAP processor for the display in the report. These calculations are however only for display. With subsequent calculations, the system does not use the locally calculated values for the display but the original values provided by the OLAP processor.

For more information, see Calculating Results as... and Calculating Individual Values as....

Hierarchies

During data analysis, you can display various elements of a query in hierarchy form. For example, you can display the hierarchy for a characteristic created in hierarchy maintenance as an active presentation hierarchy, and evaluate the data on individual hierarchy levels. You can also display hierarchical relations of a structure that were defined in the Query Designer or display the objects of an axis as a hierarchy.

For more information, see Working with Hierarchies.

Suppression of Zeros and Zero Columns

In query properties, you are able to determine whether rows or columns that contain zeros as values are displayed or not displayed.

For more information, see Suppression of Zero Rows and Zero Columns.
