You can add comments to and enhance the structured business data that you provide, for example in a table, with unstructured information such as texts, diagrams, and graphics. You do this using the Web items Single Document and List of Documents. You can also display document links to the content of cells in a report. In BEx Web runtime (Java), you can start KM applications (Knowledge Management) using the Single Document and List of Documents Web items so as to display documents and their associated details.
· You have the necessary authorization for displaying and editing documents. For more information, see Authorizations for Documents.
· Single Document and List of Documents Web items:
¡ You have created documents in a Web application, in the Data Warehousing Workbench or in the master data maintenance screen. You inserted the Web item single document or list of documents into the Web template when you maintained the Web application in the BEx Web Application Designer.
¡ You were using the Analysis Item and were taken to the document browser, either by the Documents context menu, or by clicking on the document icon.
¡ Either the BEx Web Analyzer or the Standard Web Template for Ad Hoc Analysis is displayed and you have called the Notes function from the Data Analysis tab page.
With the Single Document Web item you can insert documents of all formats into the Web application and display properties for the document, such as the last person to change the document or the time at which it was last changed.
Additional functions are available from the context menu of this Web item:
In the Single Document Web item you can call the details dialog box in Knowledge Management (KM) for a document.
You can edit documents either online or locally, using the details dialog box. For more information, see Online and Local Editing.

The List of Documents allows you to call or create context-sensitive documents for the data used in the Web application.
In this Web item the following options, amongst others, are available:
· Column display
You can display the Name, Content, Assignment (for the BI data) and Author columns in the Web item. Choose Display in the Web application and set the indicator for the column that you want to show.
· Document editing
You can add any locally saved file, a comment or formatted text to the current BI context (the current BI data selection). In the Web application, choose New ® Comment, Formatted Text or Upload. If you choose the Formatted Text context menu entry, a Web browser window appears in which you have many formatting functions available.
You can also call the details dialog box in KM using the List of Documents Web item and edit documents online or locally.
