Procedure documentation Configuring Runtime Systems Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

When you configure runtime systems, you add systems to the development track. You can then import software changes into these systems automatically and test the software under runtime conditions.

Prerequisites

You are in the Landscape Configurator.

You have configured a domain.

You have installed one or more J2EE Engines that you can use as runtime systems.

Procedure

To configure runtime systems in a development track, proceed as follows:

...

       1.      In the track list, select the track for which you want configure runtime systems.

       2.      Select the Runtime Systems tab page.

       3.      Under Selected Runtime Systems, select the runtime systems that you need for your track. When you deselect a checkbox, you delete the systems that you no longer need in your track.

       4.      Enter the following data for the Software Deployment Manager (SDM):

¡        SDM Host Name: Enter the host name of the Software Deployment Manager (SDM) that is installed for the appropriate runtime system.

¡        SDM Port Number: Port number used to address the SDM

Note

For a default installation, the port number for the SDM is 18; if you modified the SDM port during the installation, you must remember this when you enter the port number. The input parameter for the SDM port field appears as follows:

http port: 50000 + instance number * 100 + SDM port: 18

Example

For instance number 2, the SDM port is 50218.

¡        SDM Password: Password you chose when you installed the J2EE Engine for the SDM

For the Development and Consolidation runtime systems, you can also select the Disable Automatic Deployment option. When you do this, you remove the link between automatic deployment and activation in SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio. You then have to trigger the deployment manually. For a description of manual deployments, see SAP Note 770522.

Recommendation

We recommend that you keep the default settings.

       5.      Optional: Expand the View/Edit Deployment Substitution Parameters tray. The CMS gets the data for the deployment substitution variables from the SDM and displays them in the table. In the table, you can modify the variables or add extra deployment substitution variables. You must save any modified deployment substitution variables by choosing Save Variables ...

Caution

Any changes you make to deployment substitution variables could cause the deployment to fail. For this reason, we recommend that you retain the defaults.

You can use the Read Substitution Variables function to get the substitution variables again. You might need to do this if you could not connect to the SDM at the first attempt.

       6.      Repeat the procedure for all runtime systems that you want to configure.

       7.      After you have configured all the runtime systems and entered the parameters for a new track, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Save.

Result

In the selected track, you have added or deleted one or more runtime systems.
