Object documentation SAP Unifier for BW Project iPanel Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Definition

The BW Unifier project iPanel is the toolbar that contains the BW InfoObjects to which a user has access rights.

Use

The BW Unifier project appears as a strip in the SAP Enterprise Portal iPanel. Expanding the BW Unifier project strip displays the components assigned to the user. These components can be opened to reveal data or launch Web Application pages.

In order to minimize the load time of the iPanel, the unifier provides a default maximum number of nodes (200) that the iPanel can display. The administrator can configure a different maximum number from the Project Properties page.

You may have a number of roles whose component nodes total more than can be displayed. If the unifier is forced to remove nodes, it generates a message to that effect. To ensure that the reports you need are not cut from the iPanel, go to the BW environment and place them in the Favorites folder, whose contents are not affected.

Note

The iPanel is an integral feature of Enteprise Portal 5.0. It is not part of portal version 6.0. For information about how Unification Server works with the different portal versions, see Unification: With Enterprise Portal 5.0 or 6.0.

Structure

The user iPanel menu is based on what the BW system administrator defines in the BW system, according to the roles of the particular user. The BW Unifier reads the repository and imports the toolbar, including the Favorites folder, as defined in the BW system. It then builds the toolbar, without having to consider access permissions for each individual node.

The BW Unifier project iPanel is static and cannot be changed through the portal user management tools. When necessary, the BW system administrator makes changes in the BW system, and these are then reflected in the project iPanel.

At runtime, when SAP Enterprise Portal users enter the portal, their BW Unifier project iPanels display elements assigned to their roles by the BW system administrator. These components may include Web Applications, Workbooks (Excel sheets), queries and URLs (for example, Crystal reports and Yahoo!).
